The Provincial Observance of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons held its Culmination Program at the Negros Occ. Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO), on July 27.

The activity was spearheaded by the Provincial Committee on Anti-Trafficking, Child Pornography and Violence Against Women (PCAT-CP-VAWC), headed by Gov. Bong Lacson, as chairman, and composed of government agencies and partner organizations who work together in addressing trafficking in persons and violence against women and children.

The activity, themed, “The Use and Abuse of Technology”, aims to raise awareness on the safe use of internet and social media platforms to help mitigate the risk of people falling victims to human trafficking online.

Gov. Lacson said that much of the success in ending human trafficking will depend on how law enforcement, justice systems, and others can leverage technology.

He also said that the activity underscores how cooperation with the private sector can harness innovation and expertise for the development of technology-based solutions to prevent and combat human trafficking.

“I am calling on everyone to be more observant and vigilant, for in this time and age, trafficking can happen almost anywhere and to anyone,” he added.

He reiterated the Provincial Government’s commitment to assist and aid all efforts against such emerging form of modern-day slavery.
