In a move prioritizing sustainability and improved living conditions, the City Government of Bago has relocated 22 families displaced by the recent Mount Kanlaon activity from a concrete evacuation center to the newly established Payag sang Kapag-on Village in Barangay Napoles.
The transfer, which took place on March 31, saw 80 individuals moved to their new temporary homes.

The evacuees, originally from Purok Manokan in Barangay Ilijan, reside within the six-kilometer permanent danger zone of Mount Kanlaon. Their displacement stems from the volcanic activity that intensified in December 2024.
The Payag sang Kapag-on Village, situated on a seven-hectare city-owned property, is designed to serve as a more functional and sustainable temporary resettlement site for the internally displaced persons (IDPs). The city government opted for modernized nipa huts, or “bahay kubo,” constructed primarily from bamboo, replacing traditional modular tents.
The relocation operation was conducted smoothly, with personnel from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), City Engineer’s Office, and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) all present to assist the evacuees.
