Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power) will implement a 12-hour power outage on Sunday, January 12, from 5:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., to conduct critical maintenance work on the Bacolod-Silay 69kV sub-transmission line.

Mervin Dalian, head engineer of Negros Power’s Network Development and Operations Group, announced the scheduled outage in a press release on Thursday. This proactive maintenance aims to minimize unscheduled power interruptions and ensure reliable electricity supply to the region.

The maintenance will focus on Segment P of the 30-kilometer line, spanning approximately 4.9 kilometers. This segment comprises 43 structures and will involve the replacement of 130 suspension insulators.

To expedite the maintenance, Negros Power will deploy at least 15 teams to conduct the repairs. Maintenance activities will also be performed at the Panaogao and Lopez substations.

The Bacolod-Silay sub-transmission line is crucial for power distribution in the region, transporting electricity from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) substation in Bacolod to the Panaogao, Talisay, and Lopez substations operated by Negros Power.

However, the line’s location within sugarcane plantations makes it susceptible to damage, particularly during inclement weather, and significantly hinders access during repairs.

Dalian emphasized the urgency of the maintenance, stating, “This sub-transmission line facility is 40 years old. The accessories are worn out and substandard, and they currently cannot accommodate the electricity and voltage requirements. It’s very challenging, and we need to implement solutions as soon as possible.”
