The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has raised the alert level for Kanlaon Volcano to 3 following a phreatic eruption at 3PM today, December 9.
In response to the volcanic activity, local authorities in La Carlota City have suspended classes in all levels, both public and private, as a precautionary measure.
PHIVOLCS warned the public against entering the 4-kilometer permanent danger zone. Civil aviation authorities have also been advised to remind pilots to avoid flying close to the volcano’s summit as ash plumes from sudden phreatic eruptions can be hazardous to aircraft.
