Senator Francis Tolentino praised Sagay City for being recognized as one of the Top 100 Destinations in the world for its continuous efforts in environmental protection.

Tolentino, the guest speaker of this year’s festivities, highlighted the city’s success as a model that other local government units should emulate.

The city was awarded the Top 2 for Nature and Scenery Category and the People’s Choice Award in the Top 100 Green Destination Stories during the Internationale Tourismus-Börse Convention in Berlin, Germany.

“The international awards given to Sagay should serve as a lesson and we should pass it on to the next generation,” the senator said.

Mayor Narciso Javelosa, Jr., who also participated in the festival, stated that the event’s theme “We Listen… We Act Together” aims to raise awareness of the city’s need to be sensitive to the needs of its people, especially the poor and the oppressed. He urged government leaders to go out of their comfort zones, listen to the community, and act promptly on their needs.

Congressman Alfredo Marañon, III also praised Sagaynons for their resilience in the past two challenging years and urged the community to work together in building a better Sagay and a brighter future for its people.

Vice Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva challenged Sagay to create more sustainable opportunities for communities while advocating for the preservation and conservation of the environment.

The opening of the festival villages followed the opening ceremony, which were led by Tolentino and city officials. The villages included the Bugay-Sagay Agro-Aqua Festival Village, Dagway Sagay Arts and Culture Festival Village, Taliambong Food Festival Village, and Livestock and Poultry Fair & Exhibits.
