Residential fire in Silay displaces almost 200 persons

One hundred ninety-one persons were left homeless after a 2-hour fire that hit a community of fisherfolk in Sitio Dacutan Dako, Barangay Mambulac, Silay City at past noon of February 22.

Silay City Mayor Mark Golez who personally visited the fire scene said at least 31 houses were destroyed and a dozen were partially damaged.

Residents in the community made a quick interior attack using pails of water, however, the fire easily spread to the adjacent houses that are mostly made of light materials.

Several fire trucks and engines from Bacolod City also responded to the scene.

Golez said at least 14 families have sought shelter at the city’s evacuation center, while some families stayed with their relatives and friends. An immediate assistance consist of food, used clothing and beddings were also provided by the local government.
