Following an over 16 hours of power outage now in most residential areas served by the Alijis substation of the Negros Electric Power Corporation (NEPC), the power distribution company is working tirelessly to transfer remaining load to another substation and restore power.

NEPC, which took over the Central Negros Electric Cooperative (CENECO) earlier this month, has deployed three teams to install new feeder lines connecting the Murcia feeder to Alijis feeder 3. These teams will also construct three crossarms to accommodate the three-phase primary line, covering approximately 7 kilometers of wiring.

A separate team is also working on a tie-up from Alijis Feeder 6 to Gonzaga Feeder to provide electricity supply to Alijis Feeder 4 and 6, according to NEPC’s Facebook post. This on-going activity will also result to manual load dropping of up to 2 hours to complete the transfer.

The ongoing outage, caused by the failure of a 13-year-old 30/37MVA power transformer at the Alijis Substation, has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with over 19,000 Facebook users engaging in conversations related to the issue. NEPC has also faced criticism on the platform for its perceived inadequate response to the situation, including its autobot-like response on the comment section of its page and its messenger account.
