A group of young innovators from Negros Occidental have brought honor to the province by securing top awards at the 9th World Innovative Technology (WIT) Challenge held in Gwangju, South Korea.
Students from Ramon Torres National High School (RTNHS) in Bago City composed of Erich Joy Grande and Marciela Valdez clinched the gold medal in the symposium category for their innovative project, “Deploy, Discover, Declare: A Multi-Device System for Comprehensive Monitoring and Data-Driven Protection of Irrawaddy Dolphins.
Meanwhile, students from Doña Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School (DMLMHS) in Silay City showcased their exceptional skills and creativity, competing against talented young minds from around the world. The team of Lettynia Mellisze Sorongon and Jorge Nathalie Dequilla secured the silver medal for their “AmBOT: Autonomous Marine Robot for Oil Spill Cleanup with Integrated Desalination System.”
Another RTNHS team, composed of Lyn Piedad and Akysha Nicole Grande, was awarded the bronze medal for their “FiFee: Solar Powered Automatic Fish Feeder with Real-time Water Condition Monitoring and Response System.”
The success of the Negros Robotics Team is attributed to the collaborative efforts and support of Province of Negros Provincial Government of Negros Occidental, headed by Gov. Bong Lacson and Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer, Pinoy Robot Games led by sir Melvin Matulac, the Department of Education, Bago City and Silay City and the dedicated mentors who guided the young innovators.
