The whole of Negros island is experiencing a total blackout that started at around 5:30 this morning, October 5.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said the total blackout affects all five electric cooperatives in Negros island due to Under Frequency Relay (UFR) activation during the tripping of power plants in Negros and Panay.

In its 9AM advisory, NGCP said it monitored the tripping of several power plants in Negros Oriental and Iloilo, resulting in a significant supply deficiency in Negros and Panay.

To maintain the integrity of the transmission grid, it has activated its protection systems and implemented manual load dropping.

Brian Valle, in his report over Aksyon Radyo Iloilo also confirmed that power outage has been experienced in areas covered by MORE Power, ILECO I, ILECO II, ILECO III, GUIMELCO, CAPELCO, ANTECO and AKELCO.

As of this writing, NGCP is waiting for the restoration schedule from the generating plants, and will be announced as soon as possible.
