Negrense farmers get agricultural machineries and cash incentives

Bacolod City, Negros Occidental— Negros Occidental Gov. Bong Lacson and Dept. of Agriculture Region VI Executive Director Remelyn Recoter, led the distribution of agricultural machineries and cash incentives to Negrense farmers in a ceremony held at the Provincial Capitol grounds, this morning, July 13.

Seven LGUs namely, the cities of Himamaylan, Sipalay, and Escalante and the municipalities of Calatrava, Hinobaan, San Enrique, and La Castellana, and three farmer-associations in the province namely Newton-Camingawan-Para Farmers Association (NECAPA FA) in Bago City, Buhing Tubi Diversified Farmers Association (BUDFA) in Cauayan, and Batuan Farmers and Farmworkers Association in La Carlota City received the machineries that include rotary composters and shredding machines, with a total cost of P9.5 Million, through the DA – Bureau of Soils and Water Management and Office of Sen. Cynthia Villar.

The project aims to hasten recycling of biodegradable wastes for organic fertilizers that will also help address waste management and with reference to the “Establishment of Composting Facility for Biodegradable Wastes under National Organic Agriculture Program and Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund.

Meanwhile, a total of 368 rice farmers from the Municipality of Valladolid received Quick Turn Around (QTA) Incentives with a total of P1,008,440.

The QTA/Early Planting project under the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist aimed at responding to the food production and marketing needs of farmers affected by COVID-19 pandemic in the province; it also helped addressed the anticipation of food shortage and availability of rice, especially during the height of the pandemic last year.
