Mayor Evelio Leonardia has encouraged elementary, high school, and college students of Barangay 8 to study well in order to have a brighter future.

“Education is the greatest equalizer. Even if a person is rich, if he or she is not educated, it is useless,” Leonardia said.

The mayor led officials during the turnover of educational assistance under the “Isa Ka Libo Para Sa Isa Ka Estudyante Nga Ga-Eskwela Maayo” program to more than 200 students residing in Barangay 8, in simple rites held at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central early this week.

“There are many inspiring stories about poor people who succeeded by striving hard. I want the same thing to happen to you,” he said.

Leonardia told the students to anchor their dreams on good education as those who study well and work hard eventually succeed in life.

The financial aid was sourced from both the barangay and SK funds. It was facilitated by Punong Barangay Joan Magalona and SK chairperson Lara Aliana Panes.

“I am glad that this program was given priority by the barangay and SK councils,” the mayor added.

Magalona said the student-recipients enrolled in Junior High School, Senior High School and college have received P1,000 each, while elementary pupils received school supplies.

Another batch of students will receive a similar assistance, the barangay chief said, adding that the only requirement to avail of the educational assistance is an enrolment form.

Leonardia said education is one of the top priorities of his administration and lauded the barangay and SK councils for the commendable initiative benefiting the youth.
