Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez has declared suspension of classes across all levels until Friday, September 1.

In his announcement, the mayor said: “Due to the declaration placing the entire City of Bacolod under a state of Calamity and to provide for the clearing and cleaning operations of several schools affected by GoringPh, classes will be suspended tomorrow, August 31 until September 1, 2023.”

The city council in its 61st regular session held today, August 30, has granted approval on the request of Benitez for a declaration of Bacolod City under a State of Calamity.

This decision comes in response to the Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Resolution No. 018, Series of 2023, titled “Resolution Recommending To The Sangguniang Panlungsod The Declaration Of Bacolod City Under A State Of Calamity Due To The Effects Of Typhoon ‘goring,’ Which Caused Flooding Affecting Thirty-Three (33) Out Of Sixty-One (61) Barangays.”
