Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Administrator Robert Empedrad and Negros Occidental Governor Bong Lacson led the opening of the MARINA Training Institute at Panaad Park in Bacolod City on May 24.

The opening of MARINA’s academic arm is a welcome development for the province, said Lacson, adding that the building will pave the way for MARINA’s capacity to improve, adapt to rapidly changing trends in the maritime industry, and serve as an effective training and education facility for all maritime professionals in the province.

Lacson stressed that the marine industry is critical to achieving inclusive growth and socioeconomic advancement.

“A reliable and modern Philippine fleet, with skilled and competent seafarers will pave the way for stability of trade and progress as we forge on towards the recovery of our country and province,” he added.

Also present at the event were MARINA Deputy Administrator for Operations, Engr. Nannette Villamor – Dinopol, Deputy Administrator for Planning, Sonia Malalaluan, Financial and Administrative Service (MFAS) Director Nenita Atienza, MARINA VI Regional Director Felisa Orongan, and Ruby Badoy, among others.
