The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has placed Kanlaon Volcano under alert level 1 due to its low-level unrest as of 5AM today, November 3.
PHIVOLCS said it recorded a total of 9 volcanic earthquake and a total of 215 tonnes per day of volcanic sullfur dioxide gas emission. It also recorded 200 meters tall of steam with moderate emission drifting from southwest and northwest.
Entry into 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is currently prohibited, including flying of any aircraft close to the volcano due possible sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions.
EARTHQUAKE IN SIPALAY
Meanwhile, in Sipalay City, 2 shallow earthquakes were reported today following an intensity 5 quake that jolted the city yesterday before noon.
PHIVOLCS said it recorded a magnitude 2.7 quake st 9:15AM today, with a depth of 1 kilometer at 10.03N, 122.18E – 039 km N 44° W of the city.
At 3:39 this afternoon, PHIVOLCS said another quake with a magnitude of 2.7 and a depth of 7 kilometers was recorded at 09.38N, 122.14E – 053 km S 36° W of Sipalay.
