The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) recognized San Carlos City for its outstanding practices in composting operations.

Engr. Arthur H. Batomalaque, Senior Environmental Management Specialist and Marietta F. Lomocso, IEC Team Leader of the City Environment Management Office (CEMO) presented the Plaque of Recognition to Mayor Renato Y. Gustilo on June 14 at the City Mayor’s Office.

Engr. Batomalque, said the award is a noticeable indication that the city has managed well its solid waste management program in compliance with RA 9003.

Batomalaque added that the city has been earning P2 million in compost and Vermicast sales and also providing schools said composts in support to their Gulayan sa Paaralan.

He said that composting is a big help so that only residual wastes are dumped into the Sanitary Landfill, thus, providing longer time for said landfill to be filled.
