Newly elected barangay officials from 3 districts of Negros Occidental have embarked on a three-day Transformative Mediation Training Workshop at the Mambukal Convention Center in Murcia, which commenced yesterday, July 24.

Organized by the Provincial Planning and Development Office, the training aims to bolster the leadership capabilities of local government officials and equip them with the necessary skills to effectively mediate and resolve conflicts within their communities. This includes barangay leaders from second to fourth districts.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson emphasized the critical role of barangay officials in delivering government services directly to the people and serving as the frontline implementers of the Barangay Mediation and Justice System. He underscored the importance of preventing conflicts from escalating into legal disputes, thereby fostering harmony and understanding within communities.

“More than just amicably settling disputes, the Lupon must also work towards rebuilding relationships among conflicting community members,” Lacson said.

The training covered a wide range of topics, including an introduction to the Katarungang Pambarangay Law and the fundamentals of mediation. Ed Jalbuena from the Mediation Network, Inc. served as one of the resource persons during the workshop.
