The Ayala-led Bank of Philippine Island was forced to shut down its online banking service today, January 4, following complaints of unauthorized debits from their depositors.

BPI confirmed that some ATM, CAM deposits, POS and e-commerce debit transactions from Dec. 30 to 31, 2022 were posted twice, resulting to double deductions.

It however did not explain what caused the system glitch. But assured depositors that all their accounts are safe and secure.

The bank said it is now working to rectify the records by reversing all duplicate transactions.

The technical glitch took place less than 3 days after the country aerospace was also shut down for almost half a day due to what airport authority said a technical glitch with the air traffic management system at the country’s main gateway.
