Bacolod records first dengue fatality

The City Health Office confirmed that a 9-year-old girl was the first dengue fatality in 2023.

The CHO said the fatality who died last January was an immunocompromised and with congenital anomalies.

Aside from the first fatality, the CHO reported a 62.5% increase in cases compared to the same period last year. The CHO recorded 39 confirmed cases as of January 28, compared to only 24 the previous year.

Meanwhile, the province of Negros Occidental also recorded the most number of dengue cases in Western Visayas according to the latest numbers released by the Department of Health in the region.

Of the 453 cases, the province logged 124 cases, followed by Iloilo province with 90 cases and Capiz with 43.
