The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist disclosed on Friday, July 28, that the combination of heavy rains and strong winds brought about by Typhoon “Egay” intensified the Southwest Monsoon, resulting in P43,686,232 worth of agricultural damage in Negros Occidental.
The breakdown of losses include P35,223,842 for rice crops, P3,336,490 for high-value commercial crops, P3,725,700 for corn, P1,000,000 for fisheries, and P400,200 for irrigation.
Severely impacted by the calamity were San Carlos City, Cadiz City, EB Magalona, La Carlota City, Valladolid, Pulupandan, Pontevedra, San Enrique, Bago City, La Castellana, Binalbagan, Sipalay City, Candoni, and Cauayan.
According to the Office of Civil Defense 6, the flooding in Negros Occidental affected a staggering 15,219 families with a total of 58,829 members.
