A newly established crab canning facility in Singcang Airport in Bacolod City is expected to generate P110.7 million in income according to the Bureau of Investment.
The BOI approved the application for registration of Carthage Crab Meat Processing (CCMP) in Zone 2 Calong-calong Airport Subdivision as a new producer of pasteurized chilled crab meat.
According to the BOI, CCMP is also expected to employ over 800 employees, with at least 90 heads at the start of its operation. It will also hire a cleaning and sanitation service provider.
Once fully operational, the plant is expected to produce 1,970 metric tons (MT) of raw crab requirement, of which, 20% (394 MT, equivalent to P132 million) will come from local fisher folks.
The firm will also locally source 50% of its packaging materials (cans, cartons, can stickers and carton stickers) and ice.
In a statement, the BOI said CCMP will spur various economic gains, as the project will help in address the unemployment challenge in Western Visayas brought by the global pandemic.
