The city government of San Carlos in coordination with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) conducted a groundbreaking for the farm to market road projects in three mountainous barangays yesterday, November 23.

The road concreting projects include proper Nataban to Binone Elementary School in Brgy. Nataban; So. Alinga-ob to Balabag Elementary School in Brgy. Quezon; and So. Cabagtasan, Natuyay and Bedio, Barangay Codcod.

1st District of Negros Occidental Cong. Gerardo P. Valmayor Jr, San Carlos City Mayor Renato “Rene” Y Gustilo, Vice Mayor Christopher Paul S. Carmona, DILG OIC-Provincial Director Roselyn Quintana, Brig. Gen. Inocencio I. Pasaporte of the 303 Infantry Brigade 3rd Infantry Division led the ground breaking ceremony.

Said projects are funded by the Local Government Support Fund- Support to Barangay Development Program (LGSF-SBDP) of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.

Danille Marie Osorio, DILG Local Government Operations Officer in San Carlos said construction of said projects will begin in the first week of December.

San Carlos City was a beneficiary of the P100M worth of farm-to-market road projects funded by the LGSF-SBDP for its 5- insurgency affected barangays already cleared by the AFP. Said barangays include Nataban, Quezon, Codcod, Guadalupe and Buluangan where each was allocated P20M for said road concreting projects.

Said road concreting projects were based on the preference made by resident beneficiaries which they think will benefit them the most.

Mayor Gustilo on the other hand said the local government will continue its own various projects for the upland barangay areas especially road concreting in Brgy. Codcod after the pandemic since most of the local government funds for projects were realigned as response funds to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gustilo added that the city government will also provide an additional P20M to gradually implement road concreting at So. Natuyay and Bedio in Brgy. Codcod with the help of the provincial government and Cong. Valmayor so that farmers will have ease of movement in delivering their products to the city.
