The volcanic unrest at Kanlaon Volcano continues with a total of 33 volcanic earthquakes during the last 24-hour, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said in its advisory released at 8AM, today, February 16.

The bureau also observed moderate emission of white steam-laden plumes that rose 700 meters before drifting southwest.

Based on the latest data provided by PHIVOLCS, the bureau recorded elevated seismic activity from the volcano as compared to its activities the previous day. In its advisory last Monday, PHIVOLCS recorded only 26 volcanic earthquakes and observed moderate emission of white steam-laden plumes that rose to only 500 meters before drifting southwest and northwest.

PHIVOLCS reiterates its previous reminder that Kanlaon Volcano remains at Alert Level 1, which means that it is at an abnormal condition and has entered a period of unrest.

The local government units and the public are strongly reminded that entry into the 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) must be strictly prohibited due to the further possibilities of sudden and hazardous steam-driven or phreatic eruptions.
