An estimated P9 million worth of a backhoe and two 10-wheeler dump trucks were torched in Sitio Medel, Barangay Carabalan, Himamaylan City, on Friday evening, July 4.

According to residents, five individuals were seen setting fire to the equipment parked at a quarry site owned by the barangay captain of Carabalan.

Fire Officer 2 Ronel Labansauan, chief investigator of the Himamaylan Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), stated that their investigation is ongoing to determine if the burning of the equipment was intentional.

However, the BFP has collected ash samples from the torched equipment and will attempt to send them to the Fire Laboratory Service at the BFP National Headquarters. This is to ascertain if there are traces of accelerants or materials used to accelerate the spread of fire.
