Newly-sworn Congressman Javi Benitez of the 3rd District of Negros Occidental pledged to expedite the delivery of justice in his constituency, announcing immediate plans to file for the creation of additional Regional Trial Court (RTC) branches within his district.

Benitez who is heading to congress on his first term took his oath of office before RTC Executive Judge Dyna Doll Chiongson-Trocio at the Silay City Regional Trial Court on June 5. He was joined by his mother, Dominique Lopez Benitez, founder of the NikkiCares Foundation Inc.

Quoting Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous line, “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice,” the younger Benitez emphasized his commitment to making justice more accessible and efficient for his constituents.

“In that spirit, we’re filing for the creation of an RTC Branch in Victorias City and another additional in Silay,” Benitez stated.

He highlighted the urgent need for these new courts, revealing that the current RTC in Silay is burdened with over 1,200 cases, a caseload three times higher than the average in Bacolod City.

“It’s time justice moved closer and faster for our people,” he added, underscoring the direct impact these new courts would have on reducing case backlogs and ensuring quicker resolutions for legal matters in the 3rd District.
