In response to the ongoing volcanic activity of Kanlaon Volcano, the Negros Occidental provincial government is taking precautionary measures, according to Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz.
Diaz said that are finalizing the deployment of government assets, including 20 additional ambulances manned by the provincial Emergency Response Team. These ambulances will be stationed in strategic locations to respond to emergencies, he added.
As of yesterday, November 6, Kanlaon Volcano continued its volcanic activity spewing grey ash that blanketed parts of Canlaon City and La Castellana.
According to Mari-Andylene Quintia, a resident volcanologist at the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology’s Mt. Kanlaon Observatory, the volcano also experienced 10 volcanic earthquakes and emitted 2,066 tons of sulfur dioxide.
While the sulfur dioxide emissions have decreased, they remain significantly higher than the baseline of 300 tons per day.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council continues to remind residents of Negros Island to exercise caution due to the potential threat of ashfall.
The volcano remains under alert level 2.
