A grand farewell is being prepared for the renowned Negrense violin virtuoso and musical crusader, Gilopez Kabayao. A celebration of his life and music will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Central Philippine University Church in Jaro, Iloilo City.
Kabayao, who passed away at the age of 94, was a beloved figure in the Philippine music scene. His passion for music and his dedication to promoting Filipino culture through his artistry have left an enduring legacy.
The Manila Symphony Orchestra (MSO) expressed its deep sorrow at the loss of the Maestro, who served as their music director and conductor in the 1970s. The MSO highlighted Kabayao’s significant contributions to Filipino music, particularly his arrangements of traditional Filipino songs.
The Cultural Center of the Philippines also paid tribute to Kabayao, acknowledging his remarkable talent and his lifelong commitment to enriching Philippine culture.
The celebration of life will feature a musical tribute, with performances by various artists playing Kabayao’s Stradivarius violin. The Kabayao family, including his wife Corazon Pineda Kabayao and their children, will also perform.
