The June 3 Kanlaon Volcano’s eruption has unleashed a devastating blow to the agricultural sector, according to a report by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
In its June 10 report, NDRRMC revealed that agricultural damages has already reached P104.8 million.
It added that 1,706 farmers and fisherfolk were impacted, with the full extent of the damage to their crops and livelihoods still being assessed.
As of June 10, the NDRRMC also reported that there are 4,391 individuals from 8,479 families who remain in 8 evacuation centers. These evacuees come from 24 barangays affected by the eruption.
The Kanlaon Volcano remains under Alert Level 2 which means that there is current unrest driven by shallow magmatic processes that could eventually lead to explosive eruptions at the summit crater.
The public is strongly advised to be vigilant and avoid the four (4) kilometer-radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) to minimize risks from volcanic hazards such as pyroclastic density currents, ballistic projectiles, rockfall and others.
AID from CEBU CITY
Acting Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia in a press conference today, June 10 said that his city has approved a P7 million financial assistance package for local government units (LGUs) affected by the Kanlaon Volcano eruption.
Garcia said he plans to personally handover the aid to the affected areas, subject to approval by the City Council through a special session. The distribution plan allocates P1 million each to five areas: Bago City, La Carlota, La Castellana, Moises Padilla, and Pontivedra. The City of Canlaon, situated closest to the volcano, will receive P2 million.
