Woman found dead in Rizal was a Murcia native; live-in partner arrested

A female employee of a motorcycle trading firm, identified as Janiclear Eustaquio Cahilig, 31, was found dead in a grassy area of Barangay Palangoy, Binangonan, Rizal on Tuesday morning, February 13.

Cahilig, a native of Murcia town in Negros Occidental, was residing in San Isidro, Antipolo City.

According to the Rizal Police Provincial Office (PPO) director Felipe B. Maraggun, Cahilig’s live-in partner has been arrested as the prime suspect in her murder. The investigation revealed that the victim left for her office on Monday afternoon, February 12, even though it was her day off.

Information gathered from the suspect indicated that Cahilig planned to go drinking that evening. However, no details about her companions were available to the police.

The victim’s body was discovered by a passerby named Eric around 7:30 a.m. on February 13.

The suspect and Cahilig had been in a relationship for 13 years, meeting in 2011 at the LCCT Antipolo Campus. Despite occasional arguments, Cahilig described their relationship as strong and expressed her love for the suspect in a social media post during their 12th year anniversary.

Cahilig’s sister, Gerlie Cahilig, has appealed for assistance in bringing her remains back to Murcia. According to her sister they will be needing at least P75,000 to transport the remains of her sister back to Murcia. The victim leaves behind two children.

The suspect is currently under police custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
