A pod of 30 dolphins strayed into shallow waters near Sitio Pambutan, Barangay Canlargo, Bais City, resulting in the deaths of two dolphins and injuries to three others.
Residents spotted over 30 dolphins stranded in shallow waters during low tide on Saturday afternoon, January 25, and immediate efforts were made to guide them back to deeper water. However, two of the dolphins were found dead in the mangroves, while three others were rescued and released back into the sea.

The first deceased dolphin, a female weighing approximately 75 kilograms and measuring 216 centimeters, was discovered at 10:40 AM. A second female dolphin, of similar size (111 cm width), was found at 2:15 PM. Both dolphins have visible lacerations likely sustained during the stranding.
City veterinarians, Dr. Melanie Pescadilla and Dr. Cyron Maraña from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, conducted necropsies and collected samples from the deceased dolphins. The dolphins were subsequently buried at the city landfill.
A third dolphin remains unrecovered, according to Bais City Police Chief Col. Roland Desiree Lavisto, after retrieval efforts were temporarily halted due to rising tides.
The Coast Guard, along with police officers and local residents, assisted in the rescue and retrieval operations.
