PLDT Inc. and its wireless subsidiary, Smart Communications, Inc., are set to activate approximately 200 new cell sites this year, significantly boosting internet access in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs) across the Philippines.
This initiative aligns with the Private Sector Advisory Council’s Digital Infrastructure (PSAC DI) commitment to bridge the digital divide and empower millions of Filipinos with improved connectivity. The expansion directly supports the Philippine government’s “Broadband ng Masa” program and its broader infrastructure push, aiming to close the country’s connectivity gap.
“Each new site represents a vital connection, bringing education, livelihood opportunities, and essential services like online banking and disaster response to remote communities,” stated Butch G. Jimenez, PLDT Chief Operating Officer. “We are committed to ensuring no Filipino is left offline.”
These deployments will bring fiber and wireless solutions to underserved regions, enabling residents to fully participate in the digital economy. PLDT is collaborating with key agencies, including the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), to expedite coverage expansion.
