The Negros Occidental provincial government has successfully regained control of its Facebook page after a hacking incident that occurred on Tuesday, October 22.

The alleged hacker/s had exploited the page to post inappropriate content, including photos of scantily clad individuals. The provincial government immediately reported the incident to Meta, Facebook’s parent company, and sought assistance to recover the page.

Charina Magallanes-Tan, the head of the Provincial Information Office, expressed gratitude for the swift action taken by Meta. She emphasized the importance of the provincial government’s Facebook page as a primary channel for disseminating information to the public, especially during emergencies such as storms.

The hacking incident disrupted the provincial government’s ability to communicate with the public and provide essential updates. To prevent future cyberattacks, the provincial government is implementing stronger security measures for its social media accounts.
