Inter-island travel suspended as IATF places Iloilo City under MECQ

Sea travel between Bacolod and Iloilo City will be suspended starting May 25 after the Inter-Agency Task Force has escalated the quarantine status of Iloilo city to Modified Enhance Community Quarantine effective immediately.

In an executive order signed by Mayor Jerry Treñas of Iloilo City, the mayor said both inbound and outbound travel of persons from Negros Island to Iloilo City and vice versa shall be temporarily suspended effective 12:00 AM of May 25, 2021 until 1 1 :59 pm of May 31 , 2021.

However, the mayor guarantees that there shall be unimpeded movement of cargo in and out Of Iloilo City-Negros Island while the city is under MECQ.

The city of Iloilo has made an appeal to the IATF National Task Force Against COVID-19 and Department Of the Interior and Local Government to escalate the present community quarantine classification to MECQ after thorough discussions with the Iloilo City COVID team and their fervent recommendation.

As of yesterday, May 22, the city of Iloilo has a total of 939 active COVID-19 cases.
