Bago City was recognized by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Galing Pook Foundation as one of the top 10 local government units (LGUs) for its efforts in addressing food security and hunger.

Mayor Nicholas Yulo received the award, which included a P2 million funding allocation from the DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), from President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. at Malacañang Palace on Wednesday, June 26.

The recognition was given for Bago’s “Food Staples Sufficiency Program,” one of the 17 finalists out of 101 entries nationwide. The program was chosen for its impact on food security and nutrition, community engagement, innovation, resilience, sustainability, and efficiency in service delivery.

Yulo said the award validates the city government’s efforts in implementing programs that improve the lives of Bago residents. He also thanked the city hall employees, particularly City Agriculturist-Designate Marvin John Blance and City Social Welfare and Development Officer Leah Pilipina Canayon, for their dedication.

Blance said the recognition is a testament to the collective efforts of individuals and organizations working to address food security and malnutrition in Bago City. He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration among government, non-government organizations, the private sector, and communities to achieve a hunger-free city.

The “Walang Gutom” Awards recognize LGUs with the most innovative and effective programs in addressing food security concerns, nutrition challenges, and hunger across the country.
