After its request for a 2-week business slowdown was rejected by Bacolod City due to oppositions coming from the business community, the medical professionals in Negros has sought the help of Governor Eugenio Lacson to consider its proposal to close the provincial borders for 2 weeks to slow down the surge of COVID-19 cases.
In a Zoom meeting held yesterday with Lacson and provincial consultant Albee Benitez, the medical community has raised their concern to the governor and sought his immediate intervention to implement their recommendations before the situation worsen.
The doctors reiterated their request for non-essential shops to close down for 2 weeks, including the prohibition of dinning in restaurants and pubs, and a ban on social gatherings. The group also called on Lacson to strictly imposed the Inter-Agency Task Force guidelines especially on restricting the movement of below 18 years for 2 weeks unless in cases of emergency.
Doctors also appealed to Lacson for the province and the city of Bacolod to have a unified health protocols to curb the spread of the virus.
For its part, Capitol through Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz said that they will deliberate the suggestions of the medical community and adapt necessary measures that are within their powers.
As of yesterday, June 9, the Department of Health reported 92 new cases in Bacolod City and 43 fresh cases around the province.
