OCTA Research has tagged Bacolod at number 4 with most number of COVID-19 cases in cities around the country from June 1-7, with Davao City topping the list.
According to the independent research group, Bacolod’s daily average rate of COVID cases is at 112/day, while Davao City recorded an average of 213 cases per day. Aside from Bacolod, the cities of Quezon, Iloilo City, Cagayan de Oro, are also on the top 5.
As of yesterday, June 8, the Department of Health reported 97 new cases, 81 of which are due to local transmission. The total active cases is at 1,531.
As this developed, medical practitioners in Bacolod are calling Mayor Evelio Leonardia to imposed stricter measures, including limiting non-essential movements and closure of dine-in services of restaurants. However, after more than 3-hour meeting with Leonardia, businessmen opposed the proposal of the doctor and only agreed to impose stricter curfew measures and the selling of alcoholic beverages.
MORE VACCINES FOR BACOLOD
A shipment of 7,000 doses of Sinovac vaccines allocated for Bacolod City arrived at the airport yesterday and is brought immediately to the cold room facility of the City at the Government Center. Last June 5, the City also received 10,000 doses of Sinovac.
According to City Health Officer-in-charge Dr. Edwin Miraflor Jr. said the 17,000 Sinovac doses will be administered to 8,500 Bacolodnons classified as priority groups under A1 (frontline healthcare workers), A2 (senior citizens), and A3 (adults with comorbidities) who are receiving both their first and second doses allocation.
Leonardia had earlier requested the national government to allocate more vaccines for Bacolod, citing the urgent need to inoculate more residents amid the continued spike in local cases. As of June 7, the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and the COVID-19 Vaccination Council (CoVaC) have administered a total of 37, 838 doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
