Dr. Melvin J. Sanicas, who is currently based in Zug, Switzerland, was conferred the 2024 PAFIOO “Pamana ng Pilipino Award” by President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. at the Malacañang Palace in Manila.
Sanicas received the award for leading groundbreaking work in vaccine development that supported the world’s response to COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.
Sanicas who hails from Bacolod City is a physician-scientist with a distinguished career spanning global health, immunology, and preventive medicine.
He currently leads international medical affairs for novel cancer screening technologies at Exact Sciences.
His career trajectory reflects a unique blend of academic, industry, and philanthropic experience, having held leadership positions at major pharmaceutical companies, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and renowned academic institutions.
