Victorias welcomes first eco-sustainable smelting plant in Visayas

Mayor Javier Miguel “Javi” Benitez led the opening of Songhua Smelting Oil-Based Lubricants Manufacturing OPC, the first eco-sustainable smelting plant in the Visayas region, yesterday, February 25.

The facility is located at Hda. Josefina, Barangay XXI, Victorias City specializes in converting waste tires into tire oil, which can be used by factories with bunker burners, according to a press release from the Victorias City government.

The company utilizes a sustainable manufacturing process called pyrolysis. This thermal decomposition method transforms waste tires into valuable resources like tire oil, carbon black, steel wire, and gas. The city government emphasized that this process offers an environmentally friendly solution to tire waste management while simultaneously creating useful products.

Mayor Benitez expressed his pride in this new investment in Victorias City and stated his hopes for more sustainable investment opportunities in the future. Several city councilors, including Derek Palanca, Audie Malaga, Dino Acuña, Teresita Bartolome, and Hermie Millan, were also present at the opening ceremony.
