In an effort to empower the youth of Guihulngan City, a 3-day Youth Leadership Summit was conducted by the Guihulngan City Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (GCTF-ELCAC) in partnership with the 62nd Infantry (Unifier) Battalion and Youth for Peace and Development Movement Philippines Incorporated (YFPDMI).

The event gathered 69 youth participants from different sectors of Guihulngan City and was held at Guihulngan City National High School, Brgy Poblacion, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental from March 3 to 5, 2023.

Various agencies, including the Local Government Unit of Guihulngan City 61st Special Action Company, 6SAB, PNP Guihulngan City, Bureau of Fire and Protection, and other partner stakeholders, worked in close collaboration to make the event a success. The participants were able to build camaraderie and enjoy the 3-day activity that included three modules.

The first module, Awakening, focused on discovering oneself and included lectures on The Self, The Family and Community, and the Environment. The second module, Nurturing, aimed to develop the youth into responsible individuals and covered topics such as Drug Awareness and Prevention, Role of the youth in Disaster Resiliency Efforts, and Disaster Risk Reduction Management. The third module, Empowering, aimed to make the youth advocates of peace and development and included lectures on Executive Order # 70, AFP’s Development Support and Security Plan “Kapayapaan,” and Anti-CPP-NPA Recruitment.

The Youth Leadership Summit aimed to empower the youth to become productive citizens, know their role in nation-building, develop a sense of leadership, and commitment to serve the country without sacrificing their security and future.

In her statement, Ms. Maridel Gamo, CLGOO, said, “You are now our partners for peace in your community. You are now the building blocks; you are our future.” The successful event was a step towards creating a more peaceful and productive community for Guihulngan City’s youth.
