A massive fire engulfed a commercial building in the downtown area early Sunday morning, February 12, leaving damages estimated to be worth P20 million, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection.

The fire broke out around 8:30 am in a three-story Jean’s boutique along Luzuriaga Street. Witnesses reported seeing smoke and flames billowing from the building, prompting them to call for emergency services.

Firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes and worked to contain the blaze, however at past 11am, the fire crossed the neighboring store at Cor. Locsin-Luzuriaga and took firefighters until 3pm to fully extinguish. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Only the upper floor of affected shops, which sell various merchandise, were almost completely gutted.

Fire investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire. Initial reports suggest that it may have been triggered by an electrical fault, although authorities have not yet confirmed this.
