The Rafael Salas Park and Nature Center, located in Sitio Guintubdan, Barangay Ilihan, Bago City, has temporarily closed due to a strong sulfur odor as a result of the continues degassing of Kanlaon Volcano.

A total of 18 staff of the park, who are all residents of the area, were advised not to report for work due to the unbearable smell, Bago City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) Head Dr. Merijene Ortizo sai.

The strong sulfur odor, accompanied by a thin layer of ashfall, was first reported on Monday, November 4.

Ortiz said that they have already reported to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) Mt. Kanlaon Observatory in La Carlota City.
