Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), a PLDT wireless unit, has been named the fastest mobile network in the Philippines for Q1 2023 by Ookla®, the global leader in mobile and broadband network intelligence.
According to Ookla’s latest Speedtest Global Index, Smart delivered the country’s fastest median download speeds of 33.39 Mbps, surpassing its closest competitor’s median download speed of 22.29 Mbps.
This accolade builds on Smart’s previous recognition as the Best Mobile Network in the Philippines, making it the first and only Philippine mobile operator to win Ookla’s Best Mobile Network Award for Q1-Q2 2022 and Q3-Q4 2022. Smart won both the Fastest Mobile Network and Best Mobile Coverage awards during the same reporting periods of Ookla.
Francis E. Flores, SVP and Head of Consumer Business Group – Individual at Smart, highlighted the company’s commitment to providing the best customer experience for Filipinos by offering the fastest speeds and widest coverage. Smart’s obsession with providing an excellent customer experience is at the heart of its network leadership, Flores added.
Ookla’s latest country report showed that Smart is also the fastest mobile network in key cities and provinces in the Philippines, including Metro Manila, Cebu City, and Davao Region. Smart’s 3G, 4G/LTE, and 5G network covers 97 percent of the country’s population, with approximately 76,500 base stations, including over 7,200 5G base stations and about 38,800 LTE base stations.
This continuous improvement of Smart’s mobile network aligns with the PLDT Group’s efforts to anchor initiatives on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly on SDG No. 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
