Twenty-five sub-villages in Barangay Singcang-Airport were affected by floodwaters following the onslaught of Typhoon Verbena on Tuesday, November 25.

Barangay Captain Rosinie Distrito of Singcang-Airport reported that the wall of Gaisano City Mall collapsed, contributing to the persistent flooding in several puroks. Among the most severely affected areas were Purok Caingin, Purok Jupiter, and Purok Sicogon.

Distrito further explained that clogged drainage systems in several puroks are making it difficult for the floodwaters to recede.

Data from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office showed that over 5,000 families from the village were evacuated due to the massive flooding caused by the typhoon.

Residents in Purok Mars, which is just across a mall in Araneta Street, were also caught unprepared for the extreme level of flooding, with water reaching up to the second floors of their homes.

Residents said water began to rise around 6:30 AM and while they had preemptively moved some belongings to the upper part of their homes, they did not anticipate the situation would worsen so rapidly. By 7:00 AM, the water continued to rise, forcing some residents to seek refuge on their rooftops.
