Shrimp congress opens in Bacolod

The 14th Philippine Shrimp Congress officially opens in Bacolod today, September 20, with Negros Occidental Governor Bong Lacson welcoming the participants and guest at SMX Convention Center this morning.

In his speech, Gov. Lacson said that the shrimp industry has been able to maintain its competitive edge and penetrate new markets locally and abroad with the help of new production and processing technologies.

“Though we are truly grateful for the continued success of the shrimp industry, sustainability is essential to its long-term success,” he said.

The 14th Philippine Shrimp Congress feature talks and presentations from experts in the shrimp industry.

The congress is also expected to provide a platform for shrimp farmers and other stakeholders to network and exchange ideas.

Also present at the opening ceremony were Rep. Camille Villar, who represented Sen. Cynthia Villar, 2nd District Rep. Alfredo Marañon III, and City Administrator Atty. Pacifico Maghari III, representative of Bacolod City Mayor Albee Benitez, among others.
