San Carlos acquires P14.9m rescue equipment

The City of San Carlos recently acquired rescue equipment that has a total price tag of P14.9 million.

The San Carlos City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) funded the purchase of the speed boat priced at P11.5M.

City DRRM Officer Joe Recalex C. Alingasa Jr. said San Carlos has long dreamed of having a naval equipment to help the people of Sipaway Island and other coastal barangays as well as protect the territorial waters of the city thru patrols facilitated by the Bantay Dagat and PNP Maritime Police.

It also purchased a customized 4×4 Toyota pick-up truck at P3.4M which will be used during search and rescue operations in the urban barangays was funded thru the Performance Challenge Fund of the Department of the Interior & Local Government (DILG) as the city is one of the awardees for the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).

Alingasa said a training for Bantay Dagat personnel, Philippine Coast Guard, PNP Maritime, ERT of the DRRM Office and residents of Barangays San Juan and Ermita on how to manage the rescue and patrol boat especially during storms.

These new equipment were blessed last December 1 by Rev. Fr. Vicente L. Ramon Jr. OAR together with Mayor Renato Gustilo.

After the blessing, Mayor Gustilo, Vice Mayor Christopher Paul S. Carmona, Cong. Gerardo P. Valmayor, Jr. of First District of Negros Occidental, City, SP Members Benito Y. Gustilo, Mark E. Cui,Wilmer L. Yap together with the emergency rescue team boarded the rescue and patrol boat for a test.

SP Member Lorna Y. Hinolan and Edward Burgos, Division Head of Coastal Resources Management were also present during the blessing.
