A rookie driver ran over and killed a 10-year-old girl after struggling to control a canter truck he was operating for practice at a compound at Purok 3, Brgy. Gargato, Hinigaran town on Thursday, July 21.
The girl, who was working at the compound was severely injured that resulted to her death, while 3 others sustained injuries, including a 12-year-old male.
Lt. Col. Necerato Sabando, chief of the Hinigaran Police, identified the suspect as Jumo Potueco, 36, who also works for the same employer.
According to Sabando, the suspect boarded the truck to practice driving, but when he maneuvered it, it crashed straight into the workers who were within the compound repacking dried fish.
Also injured were Klana Joy Parreno, 18, and Myra Bacolinao, 24, all residents of Brgy. Gargato.
Police said it is filing a case of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and multiple injuries against the suspect.
Sabando reminded practicing drivers to practice only in a wide area and away from people.
The suspect was detained at the Hinigaran PNP custodial facility.
