The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) is currently monitoring the activities of Mt. Kanlaon due to a possible hazard that may occur, including the possibility of phreatic eruptions.
This after it recorded a total of 101 volcanic earthquake from April 30 up to today, May 2. Over the weekend, PHIVOLCS said it logged 66 volcanic earthquake and recorded 100 meters tall weak emission.
On April 30, the local government of La Carlota City has alerted residents of barangays Ara-al, Brgy. San Miguel, Brgy. Yubo and Brgy. Haguimit for possible ashfall due to low-level unrest of the volcano.
In its 5AM advisory released today, May 2, PHIVOLCS reminded the public that entry into 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is restricted, while flying of any aircraft close to the volcano is prohibited.
