The Philippines is aiming for a 10% growth in its halal industry exports, with increased production and expanded market access.
Ammar Yassir Baraguir, program head of the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Halal Project Management Office, said their office is implementing a 10-year halal roadmap to enhance production.
This involves establishing halal multiplier farms, assisting private farms seeking halal certification, and developing guidelines for DA-assisted halal farms.
The roadmap also focuses on boosting the yield of halal crops, animal products, and agri-fishery outputs.
Da is also collaborating with the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards to create additional national standards for halal products.
Despite the global halal industry being valued at $3.2 billion, the Philippines accounted for just 5% of the global halal trade in 2018, the agriculture bureau said.
