The people’s champ and incumbent Senator Manny Pacquiao is scheduled to visit Bacolod in the coming weeks and set to endorse a politician who will be running for mayor.

According to a source close to a former politician, the visit will undoubtedly influence the mayoralty candidate’s campaign position. But when Negros News Online pressed him for more information, including naming the possible mayoral bet, he remained tight-lipped.

will the endorsement be for Mayor Evelio Leonardia or for another mayoralty candidate in Negros Occidental?

The same source was also mum if the endorsement would be for a Bacolod mayoralty bet. Mayor Evelio Leonardia is known to have close relations with Pacquiao, with the latter constantly present in his fights, carrying the Philippine flag. However, due to COVID-19, Leonardia was unable to join his team in his most recent bout.

Leonardia said that in as much as he would have wanted to watch the fight live in the US, he have to stay in Bacolod and remain focused on the city’s fight against Covid-19. The mayor never left Bacolod since this pandemic started in February 2020.

But Bacolod’s former solon Monico Puentevella was among those who joined Pacquiao in La Vegas. A photo of Puentevella and Pacquiao was seen in the former’s Facebook page.

Leonardia has been supported by the boxing champ turned senator since 2007 by endorsing his candidacy. The mayor also declared Pacquiao as an “adopted son” of Bacolod
