Approximately 1,274 metric tons or 708 cubic meters of silt and debris were successfully hauled from the mouth (bocana) of the Mandalagan River as of today, October 23, the third day of the ongoing clearing and desilting operations on the river.
Simultaneous clearing and desilting operations were also conducted at the Banago River, which has resulted in the hauling of a total of 1,485 metric tons or 824 cubic meters of silt and debris as of October 23.
Combined, a total of approximately 2,759 metric tons of silt and debris, or 1,533 cubic meters, have now been removed from the two rivers. These rivers serve as the main outfall for several tributary creeks in the northern part of the city.
The massive clearing and desilting operations will continue, as they have become one of the immediate solutions to address flooding in the city, according to Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya.
