Over a million Negrenses have been fully inoculated against COVID-19 as of January 31, the Department of Health Region 6 reported.

But the provincial government has to chase another 30% of the 70% target population for it to reach herd immunity versus the virus. The DOH said the province has to vaccinate over 1.8 million of its population.

Despite the over 800,000 individuals who still have to receive their initial dose of the vaccine, Capitol said that they are hopeful to reach herd immunity by end of the first quarter of 2022.

Among the local government units with highest vaccination rate in Negros Occidental are La Carlota City at 89%, Pulupandan 79.67%, Cadiz City 79.27%, Murcia 77.23%, EB Magalona 75.30%, Victorias City 74.46%, San Enrique 74.21%, and Sagay City 72.07%.

Most of the big cities are still racing to administer the vaccines to its targeted population.

According to the DOH, the provincial government has received over 3.2million vaccines, enough to administer to its targeted population. Of the 3million, nearly a million of it were Sinovac and Pfizer brands.
